New Publication: “Zonder wrijving geen glans”

At the occasion of our colleague Prof. Dr. Ernst Homburg’s valedictory lecture, members of the Maastricht STS group (MUSTS, including me) have collected tips for cultural heritage destinations that are hidden gems, intriguing and highly worthy of visiting, but not widely known and at times hard to find. Until you have used this multi-language magnifier.

The booklet brings the reader to a variety of different places recommended by members of the Maastricht University research program in Science, Technology and Society Studies (MUSTS): a mysterious villa, a motionless ship, a luxurious library, a forgotten industry, an unusual museum.

I wrote a short piece in Dutch about the heritage of working-class neighborhoods in Eindhoven (Philipsdorp and Woensel-West).

The book was presented to Ernst Homburg after his valedictory lecture entitled: “Verhalen van de Oude Berg: wetenschap, techniek, industrie en politiek in de Euregio” (Stories of the old mountain: science, technology, industry and politics in the Euregion), which took place on 26th April 2019 in the Aula of Maastricht University.

It is available for download at the MUSTS-website www.maastrichtsts.nl:
